Ceramics manufactured in accordance with the best French tradition
This complex process with many stages requires extensive know-how and undergoes continuous, specific and strict quality controls, which have given the French tradition its reputation.
Production steps
1. Working the raw material
Ceramics are made from powdered mineral raw material (kaolin, feldspar and quartz). When mixed in the correct proportions with water, they form the clay body.
2. Preparation of the clay body
According to the heritage of ceramics in Alsace, Staub has created the perfect balance between earth and water. An ancestral formula that is used to make two types of clay: "extruded" in the form of cylinders and "slip" in liquid form.
3. Forming of the ceramic pieces
The model maker starts by making a model by hand. Any drips are then stumped by hand.
- Forming of the ceramics piece
- The slip is poured in
- Any drips are deburred by hand
4. Greenware
The formed pieces, which are called greenware, are then dried in the air to guarantee perfect resistance to firing.
5. Enameling
The enamel is made of glass powder and the mineral pigments that will create the Staub colours.
The almost complete enameling of Staub products is carried out by hand on delicate items and by machine on articles with simple symmetry.
6. Firing
Thanks to a new firing technology, the quality of the product is optimised.
Staub ceramics boast superior quality (denser material that is not as porous, covered by smooth and strong enamel)
7. Polishing
For perfect finish, polishing is carried out in two steps. First of all, it is done by a machine, for a perfectly smooth base; then it is worked over by hand with an abrasive stone.
8. Quality control, packaging and shipment
Only perfect pieces that qualify for sale after visual inspection by an operator are carefully packaged and shipped.
